National Youth Pipe Band Proposal

Aims:

  1. To offer young pipers and drummers an opportunity to meet, perform and learn together through the provision of a joint concert programme which would  be performed in a  different venue each year.
  2. To give young players something to look forward to other than competitive performances.
  3. To encourage bands in the IPBA to embrace the teaching of young pipers and drummers.
  4. To encourage young players in non-competing bands to improve their playing skills.

Organisation

The ‘A’ band

The ‘A’ Band will cater  for players who already have a good degree of competence in performance. The age range will be 12 to 25 years. The repertoire will include concert material as well as simple marches,  jigs and reels.

The ‘B’ band:

The ‘B’ band will cater for players who are just in the first few years of their journey on pipes and drums. The age range will be from 8 years to 18 years (but this is just a guideline) . The repertoire will include some basic concert material as well as slow airs and marches.

It is envisaged that both bands would perform together on some of the concert items but that the ‘A’ band would play certain more advanced items on their own.

It is hoped  that an annual NYPB concert would be held each year in a different geographical area .

For example:  Concert number one occurring in the Leinster or South East region in the autumn of 2025 followed by concerts in Munster in 2026 and North West in 2027.

The schedule will be decided by the committee of instructors and committee members.

Uniform

Uniform will consist of the performer’s own band kilt plus a crested polo shirt. (Colour to be decided ).
